A number of food processing factories in Seoul that produce ingredients for kimchi were found to have violated food safety regulations.
The Seoul Metropolitan government says out of 135 food plants that were inspected, 22 or 16 percent lacked proper hygiene control.
Violations included using ingredients past their expiry dates, using and selling products without labels and failing to carry out quality checks.
City officials will take action against the violators and boost operations at its food product monitoring center.
