When I saw this photo, which was taken by a newspaper photographer, I was over-whelmed by memories of kampong life in the 60s’ where most people were not too concerned about food safety.
But how can this be happening now, when our city is being touted as tech savy, clean and having high standard of hygiene in this part of the world. Furthermore, this blatant act was committed under the noses of various people tasked with the responsibility of keeping our food safe.
The cardinal rule in food safety is not allowing any food to touch the floor and become contaminated with filth and germs.
This incident happened in one of a number of wet markets in Singapore, supposedly in danger of being replaced by supermarkets.
Lets face it. The days of the wet market are numbered.
