Police investigate allegations that urine has been found in food served at Snaresbrook Crown Court
Canteen staff at Snaresbrook Crown Court are being questioned by police after traces of urine were allegedly found in food served to judges and barristers.
According to a report in a national newspaper, food safety officers were called in after staff complained that their food ‘smelled a bit off’.
The paper says a private dining room known as the advocates’ lounge has been shut down and claims that staff working there have been suspended while investigations are conducted.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “We were called at approximately 4pm on Tuesday (January 17), to an allegation of food contamination.
“We are jointly investigating with Redbridge Council at a venue on Hollybush Hill.
“No arrests have been made and inquiries continue.”
Redbridge Council confirmed food safety officers were also investigating.
A spokeswoman for Eurest Services, the catering company which supplies food at the court, said: “Eurest Services is aware of a suspected case of food contamination.
“We are currently investigating the matter and therefore cannot comment further at this stage.
“Health and safety is our number one operational priority, we have robust policies in place and take such matters extremely seriously.”
