08/02/10: Check out the toilets before you choose place to have a meal

EVERYONE knows that toilets in many coffee shops and certain hawker centres in Singapore do not have hand-washing soap or any toilet paper.

People who eat at the coffee shops or hawker centres end up facing the risk consuming faeces and other bacteria as evident in the recent Geylang Serai rojak case.

Although you may not be one of the people to use these horrible toilets, the person cooking the food and serving it to you may be doing so.

Without soap and paper, where do they wipe their hands?

Hawkers come back from these toilets with soiled hands and then proceed to prepare your food. They could be wiping their hands on the chopping board and utensils.

There are two toilet cultures in Singapore – the wiper and the washer.

Not having any paper and soap in public toilets affects both these cultures.

So, the next time you choose to have your food at any place, you need to check out the toilets first.
