Recalled products include various potato salads, macaroni salads and tuna salads sold under the following brands: Reser’s, Safeway, Walmart, Savemart, Stonemill Kitchens and Sysco. The Reser branded products can be identified by coding on the edge of the lid, as shown above.

Reser’s Fine Foods, Inc. of Beaverton, OR, is recalling 19 refrigerated salad products from 29 states in the U.S. and one Canadian province because they might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Recalled products include various potato salads, macaroni salads and tuna salads sold under the following brands: Reser’s, Safeway, Walmart, Savemart, Stonemill Kitchens and Sysco. The Reser branded products can be identified by coding on the edge of the lid, as shown above.

Reser’s initiated the recall April 10 after notification from one of its ingredient suppliers that one lot of its fresh-cut onions could be contaminated with the pathogen.

The recalled refrigerated salads were distributed to retailers and distribution centers in: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and British Columbia in Canada.

The Reser’s branded retail product is sold in plastic containers and is marked with a “Use By Date” and “#10” at the end of the line of printing on the edge of the container lids.

Several other brands, produced by Reser’s Fine Foods are included in the recall.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometime fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and individuals with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may suffer only short term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant woman.

Consumers are urged not to consume these products. Consumers who purchased these products may take them back to the store for a refund or discard them.
