Nine children allegedly fallen ill after consuming food from a restaurant located in City Square Mall.

FOOD samples from a restaurant located in City Square Mall were collected by the Singapore Health Ministry (MOH) for testing last week after nine children had allegedly fallen sick with diarrhoea and vomitting.

They had just eaten at the Saizeriya Italian Restaurant last Wednesday.

The Primary 6 pupils were from tuition centre Learning Habitat and its principal had brought them to the restaurant for lunch. Said principal Lee Canning: ‘I had made a reservation for our teachers and kids. They shared food like pasta, escargots, beef and pizzas.

‘About an hour after lunch, during lessons, three kids started complaining about stomachaches.’

Ms Lee added that she became alarmed when one of them vomitted. She said: ‘I went to the restaurant, accompanied by City Square’s management. I had thought they would be concerned and wanted to inform them.’

Ms Lee said a member of the restaurant staff denied the restaurant was responsible and said that ‘the children were not used to eating ‘such food’ and that they were running around in the restaurant,’ she said. The children were eventually sent to the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and were discharged after observation on the same day.
